Please join us as we kick off the New Year with a community celebration at our annual membership meeting to be held at the Dana Adobe on January 16, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. California State Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee will be our guest speaker to help celebrate recent exciting successes.  On December 11, 2008, Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos (DANA) acquired the 29-acre property around the Dana Adobe, California State Historical Landmark #1033 Rancho Nipomo Dana Adobe, with funds from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment, and funds obtained by the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County, supported also by Save the Mesa, and several private donors and community donations. This is one of the most important cultural resource land acquisitions in county history. 

Together with the recent San Luis Obispo County land acquisition of 100-acres (June 2008) adjacent to Dana Adobe, designated as part of the Rancho Nipomo Historical Park, an important cultural landscape is now protected and the foundation for a regional historical park has been created.

On January 16^th, we will begin with a brief adobe walk through toshowcase the Dana Adobe restoration process which recently began with the help of the California Cultural and Historical Endowment and a grant from the Greg and Jane Hind Foundation. The tour will include snapshots of DANA's 2009 strategic initiatives, and a dramatic view of The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County's large riparian restoration project in process on the County property next to the adobe.

The event will also bring to life another success story: the recent discovery and acquisition of letters written from Nipomo in the mid nineteenth century by Maria Josefa Dana. These original documents add significant new information about women's history on the Central Coast in early California.   Historian, Paula Carr, stated "From my perspective, this is the most exciting historical discovery in recent County history."  Excerpts of these letters will be presented in a reenactment at the January 16 event.

Come by to enjoy rancho hospitality and join us for a fun and inspiring afternoon, which will include refreshments, hors d'oeuvres and music.  Dress warmly for the outdoor ceremony.  A heated tent will host the post ceremony events, and be used for the ceremony in the event of rain.
