"Light the Night" is big success for Nipomo Rotary and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Nipomo, CA—More than $20,000 was raised in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the highly successful "Light the Night" event held in Nipomo last month. On the evening of September 26, Rotary of Nipomo hosted a gala evening of cocktails, dinner, and a silent auction held at St. Joseph Church Hall in Nipomo. Sponsored in part by Mike and Lisa Streator, and supported by 4th District County Supervisor Candidate and fellow Rotarian Paul Teixeira, the event was intended not only to raise needed funds for life-saving research and patient services, but also to raise public awareness about this deadly disease. According to statistics provided by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, someone dies from a blood cancer every ten minutes. That's one death every six hours; with more deaths resulting from blood cancer among children and young adults than from any other cancer. "Events like this support the research and new treatments that will help those numbers decline," said Paul Teixeira.
