Lopez High School

I retired in 2005 from working at a DOD Company that made ship board radar tracking and jamming equipment and later a Satellite Telephone Company as a Contract, Purchasing Manager. We moved to Grover Beach and started volunteering in different capacities. I met Jann Jeffries at the Pismo State Beach Monarch Grove where we ran the little gift shop for six years, grossing over $100,000 each year for the four months open.

We also volunteered for the Backpack Program that packed food for the week-end for students who are food insecure. We deliver them to Mesa Middle School, Judkins Middle School and Lopez Continuation High School. That is how we got exposed to the amazing caring staff at Lopez and heard about their success with the students. Many of these students are homeless, come from horrible backgrounds but because of the nurturing staff the majority of these students graduate and go on to being responsible men and women.

So, Jann and I decided to give up the insects and focus on the Lopez students!! We created a Team Closet (named the Wolf Den after their logo) that carries new or barley used teen clothes, baby and toddler clothes for the nursery on campus, toiletries, laundry detergent and dish soap. Our goal is to provide the basic necessities that these students need so that their focus is on completing their education!!
